IKEA Now Offering Tiny Real Estate In Tokyo

Every now and then, there’s an advertising campaign that just gets it. The year

Every now and then, there's an advertising campaign that just gets it. The year isn't out yet, but I’m calling it – this is the one for the year.

IKEA Japan are smashing it out of the park with this one. Picture this, a shark mascot, who is actually from Sweden (the home of Ikea), gets obsessed with the idea of Japan's tiny homes, becomes a real estate agent, and finds one that is then fully-furnished with Ikea furniture (thanks to their handy storage solutions) to lease out to one lucky applicant if they are a part of Ikea's Family Membership for the tiny price of 99 Yen per month ($0.012 AUD) for a month. But don't take our word for it, take the shark's.

There are four episodes of this Shark's journey with the apartment, with the fourth to be released once an applicant has been approved. We’re presuming that saying you don't like fishing but love chomping would be a good thing to put on the application to get in with the Shark.

If you can see yourself living in Japan's Shinjuku district within 10 square meters, then this is the real estate deal for you.

Even better, their website for the campaign has pictures of the Shark's office and see the sort of ways the shark has chosen to decorate. Like shark art, pictures of the family and fish magnets. I mean talk about dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

This tiny apartment looks so good, and what it lacks in size it makes up for in functionality.

Colour me impressed and engaging with this advertising campaign. A promotion and bonus package for everyone involved.
